About The Artist
Luisa Carella is a self-taught artist who enjoys all avenues of creativity. Daughter of Sicilian-born immigrants, she comes from a family of artists who have always paved their own way. As a teen, she attended Biglerville High School, taking a few art classes for credits. There, her love of the arts bloomed into something she knew she wanted to continue pursuing. She became inspired by nature, and started to study how colors and shapes interact in everyday life. Starting with simple still life pencil drawings in a sketchbook, her portfolio continues to grow to include other mediums such as acrylic, watercolor, and pottery (both hand built and wheel-thrown).
She started painting for friends and family that requested specific pieces, and quickly began selling commissioned art. The most requested subject matter? Pets! She used this as a way to refine her skills and motivate her to try new techniques, as well as having a more narrative approach to her art.
